The makeup of the neighborhood has changed
It used to be rows of picture-perfect homes along the plains
Now we’ve bunkers in the ground
 In our soporific town
The makeup of the people here has changed
It used to be every walk of life, color, race and name
Now we’re one big happy church
 Holding service in the dirt
And I will try to rise and carry out my life
And live my days the way that I know how
The time the break the chains
 The time is now
The Human Form Divine

Race to the Bottom

I listen to the discourse of today
It’s a race to the bottom
When all we’ve built is left in disarray
Yeah, it’s a race to the bottom
And when you’re down there’s not much you can do
 but get back up again
A neighbor offers me the faintest smile
 Well it’s better than nothing
But when I hear the scorn along the dial
Yeah it’s a race to the bottom
And when you’re down you’ve got no choice
You’ve got to get back up again
I crawl out of my hole with eager arms
And in the open air there’s reverie, sirens and alarms
Seems a subject’s on the run
 And a movement has begun
The makeup of this neighborhood has changed
I head toward the sea for my escape
From this race to the bottom
I recall a line my grandpa used to say,
“Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em”

Master of strength
 Master of light
 Bastions of hate
 Bastions of lies
 All that we are
 All that I am
 Ramparts of rage
 Castles in sand
Disfigured lies the human form divine
 Estranged from its center
Disfigured lies the human form divine
 Estranged from its center
Unsettled

Obfuscation

Obfuscation
 Deflect, deflect
 Obfuscation
 Redirect
Let me draw your attention to Exhibit A
The one asking the questions has the least amount to say
When you shield yourself behind an inquisitive appeal
There is nothing of your life that you need reveal
Obfuscation
 Deflect, deflect
 Obfuscation
 Redirect
Let me draw you a picture of Exhibit B
Who doesn’t slow down long enough to think or feel or breath
Who doesn’t shut up long enough to sense the pulse of humanity
Or receive the gift of divinity
This time I’ll leave the photographs, the daily grind behind
I’ll take my attitudes, my points of view off-line
They anesthetize my life
Until I’m part of the system
When I need to open to all the joy and hope and love and pain and strife
Obfuscation
 Deflect, deflect
 Obfuscation
 Redirect
Let me introduce you to Exhibit C
Who only scratches the surface of how rich our lives could be
 (opinions galore)
It’s like I’m back in business school
Where you learn to value everything in life
 Except for what is true
Why Not

I hate tell you
But life doesn’t suck simply because you say so
 The world’s run amuck
 You’re shit out of luck
 It’s okay, though
 You’ve got to follow through
And hold onto whatever life you can
It’s hard to get on board
When life keeps serving more than you can stand
